Many of my clients with ADHD have told me they often feel like their life is in a constant state of chaos or crisis. To help them pinpoint the source of that frenzy, I ask them to envision their life as if it’s a symphony.
I have them assign the various instruments to different realms of their life and take an inventory of the different emotions that come from these areas. For example, the violin’s happy melody could represent family life. Perhaps the constant hammering on the piano represents work or social life. Maybe the loud thud and boom of the drums represents fear or procrastination.
This visualization technique is a great way to take a step back and see the various components of your life holistically. If it feels like everything is out of balance in your life, this is a very effective tool you can use to figure out what specific realms are bringing disharmony to your life. It helps you focus on only those issues that are causing the most havoc.
Give it a try … and tell me, what does the music of your life sound like?
